Hi, I am Pia Khazzaka. I am in my second year in Police Technology. I am making this glossary for my English class. Making this glossary will be useful to know more words, to know how to use them properly when we are talking about our program and to be able to write them correctly.

Example: The police still possess considerable discretion to ARREST and detain and are required to report to procurer only "as soon as possible".

Example: They had absolute authority over the criminals.

A complaint is any formal legal document that sets out the facts and legal reasons that the filing party or parties believes are sufficient to support a claim against the party or parties against whom the claim is brought that entitles the plaintiff to a remedy.
Example: I intend to make an official complaint on my neighbours.

Example: 1. She will take the matter to court this week.

Detention is the process whereby a state or private citizen lawfully holds a person by removing their freedom or liberty at that time. This can be due to criminal charges preferred against the individual pursuant to a prosecution or to protect a person or property.
Example: PACE permits up to 24 hours' DETENTION without charge; this can be extended to 36 hours, where circumstances permit, by an officer of the rank of superintendent or above.

Interrogation is interviewing as commonly employed by law enforcement officers, military personnel, intelligence agencies, organized crime syndicates, and terrorist organizations with the goal of eliciting useful information, particularly information related to suspected crime.
Example: The legislation has also been successful in encouraging more suspects to answer questions during INTERROGATION, although the increased information given to the police has not resulted in a rise in the percentage of suspects charged.
